Founded in 1936 by Laxmibai "Mavashi" Kelkar, Rashtra Sevika Samiti is India’s largest all-women volunteer organization dedicated to cultural nationalism, women's empowerment, and social service rooted in Hindutva. Inspired by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) yet functioning independently, the Samiti envisions women as strong, compassionate, and self-reliant pillars of society.

Emphasizing the traditional Bhartiya ideal of womanhood, it fosters leadership and discipline through physical training, yoga, lathi, and danda—instilling confidence and strength. Its core activity is the daily shakha, where women gather for drills, bhajans, storytelling, and patriotic discussions, nurturing a deep connection to Indian culture and values. The Samiti actively works in rural and urban communities, running literacy drives, health camps, self-employment training, and relief efforts.

It also provides support to women facing domestic violence and promotes girls’ education. Operating across India and in Indian diaspora communities abroad, the Samiti offers a uniquely Indian model of empowerment—grounded in tradition yet forward-looking. Critics may label it conservative, but for many, it represents a powerful synthesis of shakti (strength) and sanskar (values), building women who lead with pride, purpose, and deep-rooted love for Bharat. s
