Pledge

Pledge is a serious part in the association of any new Swayamsevak. Pledge is given in person by some senior office bearer of Shakha. Any senior RSS activist may deliver lecture if pledge is taken collectively. However, pledge may be taken personally in presence of office bearers of local shakha. No Swayamsevak is forced to take pledge as it is expected to be taken voluntarily. Swayamsevaks come forward to take pledge after they come to know importance of RSS work. Interestingly, RSS has crores of such Swayamsevaks, who had taken pledge and engaged in RSS work for their life time. Swayamsevak, who takes pledge is known as a `Pratidnyit Swayamsewak”. This is important stage in the life of Swayamsevak as RSS has no any other formality like filing application and entrance fee. Officer bearer administers pledge to the Swayamsevak.

Pledge goes like this:

"सर्वशक्तिमान श्री परमेश्वर तथा अपने पूर्वजों का स्मरण कर मैं प्रतिज्ञा करता हूं कि अपने पवित्र हिंदू धर्म, हिंदू संस्कृति तथा हिंदू समाज का संरक्षण कर हिंदू राष्ट्र की स्थापना के लिए तन, मन, धन से कार्य करूंगा।

Pledge is taken in the name of God and in front of the saffron flag. Pledge specifically asserts commitment of Swayamsevak to work for Hindu religion, Hindu culture and Hindu society and formation of Hindu Rashtra. Pledge can be taken in all the regional languages and English version is also used as per need. The pledge before freedom (1947) specifically mentioned efforts for political freedom. The Pledge was changed after independence in 1947.
