Founded in 1978 by Dattopant Thengdi, a senior RSS pracharak, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) is a nationalist farmers’ organization rooted in traditional Indian values. Guided by the ethos of “कृषिमित् कृषस्व”, BKS upholds the farmer’s central role in society since Vedic times.
With slogans like
“देश के हम भंडार भरेंगे, लेकिन पूरी कीमत लेंगे”,
it asserts farmers’ right to dignity and fair value.
BKS balances modern agricultural reforms with indigenous practices. It promotes self-sufficient farming—free from global market dependence—by encouraging local crops, organic methods, and sustainable techniques. It opposes centralization in economic planning and advocates for community control over land, water, and markets.
BKS has led numerous agitations on issues like Minimum Support Price (MSP), loan waivers, and unjust land acquisition. It champions fair prices, legal protection from middlemen, and rural credit reforms.
For BKS, agriculture isn’t just an economic activity—it’s a cultural pillar.
It believes in nation-first, and sees the farmer as the preserver of Bharat’s civilizational legacy. In tying agricultural progress with national self-reliance and cultural pride, BKS continues to be a powerful force in India’s rural awakening.
