Founded in July 1949 as a national student movement inspired by the pride of India’s ancient civilization, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) channels the young energy of Bharat into nation-building through constructive action and ethical values. It is not tied to party politics, but firmly rooted in the Sangh’s “Knowledge–Character–Unity” (ज्ञान - चरित्र - एकता) principle.
Guided by the RSS’s commitment to sculpting individuals (व्यक्तिनिर्माण) and national awakening, ABVP has led major student movements. From the anti-Emergency protests of the 1970s to inter-state exchanges and interfaith dialogues modernizing campuses, ABVP has been leading all important movements. It has also led spirited campaigns against left-wing extremism and societal polarization.
With over five million engaged members, ABVP boasts significant presence across India’s colleges, starting from Delhi University to JNU, Calcutta, Allahabad, and beyond. Recently, ABVP achieved a historic breakthrough in student politics at JNU and DU, expanding its student wing to previously Left-dominated campuses.
ABVP stands for inclusivity, self-discipline, and social engagement. Its manifesto advocates scholarships for tribal students, women’s health initiatives, and campus safety, as it mirrors RSS’s evolving embrace of social transformation.
Whether shaping responsible citizen leaders or inspiring students to serve beyond classrooms, ABVP’s essence lies in nurturing students, who stand firm in India’s civilizational values while staying actively engaged with modern challenges and reforms.
